J. S. Bach - Intermediate Selections

This is a collection of eight short keyboard works and excerpts by J. S. Bach. The selections were chosen by Dr. Dominic Florence, who also edited and engraved the music. This score is presented without fingering or other editorial additions to preserve the original intentions of the composer.

This collection was assembled to give students a chance to investigate the variety found in Bach’s music without having to comb through hundreds of works. There are preludes, dances, fugues, and more. You will find prime examples of improvisatory music, strict imitative music, light-hearted compositions, and those that are more serious in tone. Articulation, ornamentation, independence of voices, harmony, rhythm, and many other aspects are explored here. This is a good starting point for studying the music of J. S. Bach in depth.
